Don't Blink!

Gracie and I had a date tonight. I have been lonesome for some one-on-one time with Gracie. It always seems that I'm hanging out with the boys and the girls (Mom and Gracie) are out doing their own thing. I decided tonight would be a good night for just the two of us!
Gracie got to pick the dinner location--Pizza Hut. As we waited for our pizza to come out, we colored and just talked about life. I told Mom later that evening that I just kept staring at her and thinking, "Wow, this is my little girl!" She is so precious! And boy, does she have my appetite! She and I each ate four pieces of pizza. She was keeping pace with the pace car!
We next traversed to BAM (Books-A-Million), one of Gracie's favorite places. BAM is like a cool library, with less pressure to be quiet. There, we read stories Gracie picked out. Most evenings I'm pretty exhausted just reading. In fact, I often fall asleep while reading to her. I guess when my body slows down it seeks rest. But tonight, I had all the energy in the world for her. We were captivated by the stories of Tinker Bell trying to get to Neverland, by Daisy Jo Pony fearing the Garden Monster, and by Princess Anneliese and Erika trying to escape from the dastardly plans of Preminger. Never had reading to Gracie been so exciting! And the audience (Gracie) was captivated!
After her last book, we played with a few toys and then headed to another of her favorites, TCBY, for dessert. She had been craving their Cotton Candy yogurt, which I must say, is pretty tasty. Again, sitting across from her, watching her eat her frozen treat, I kept thinking again, "Wow, this is my little girl!" I broke my "ga-ga-ness" with a quick switch to silliness. She appeased me (see pics abose). The apple doesn't fall far from the tree! We laughed and laughed.
We came back home and we got to tell Mom all about the fun we had. She quickly skirted in to join the boys watching The Phantom Menace. And it was like the memory of a fun night was quickly stored away as she moved on to the next great thing. I started to wonder, "Is this what it will be like when she gets married, when she leaves her mother and father to start her own family?" And I reminded myself...Cherish these times. These silly, fun, endearing times. They will be gone in the blink of an eye. May I never blink!

Happy Birthday Aunt Michele!

To celebrate Aunt Michele's birthday, we threw a birthday party--even with her away in Houston. Mom did a great job of making some heart cookies to add to the celebration. We bought her some beautiful roses and sang her "Happy Birthday". Here is some footage...

Aunt Michele, we wish you a very Happy Birthday! You are always in our "hearts".

Cabin Fever!

We had the fever for Cabin fun this weekend! GiGi arranged for the Chopins, the Dupuys and Nanny Wanda to join her on an overnight getaway to Marksville. We stayed in cabins at the campground at the Paragon casino. When we arrived in Marksville, GiGi decided to throw a picnic. We stopped right outside of the Native American Conservation Museum to set up shop. We bore the sweltering heat, but we're always open to picnicing.
As we waited for our rooms to be ready, we went to the Paragon hotel to see the alligator exhibit. They live in an impressive artificial habitat right in the lobby of the hotel. We'd never seen anything like that.

Unfortunately, the Dupuys got side-tracked as Uncle Eric got a bug that afternoon. He ran fever of 103, and to top it off, the air conditioner in their cabin wasn't working. Puts a new meaning to Cabin Fever! We were proud of him for being a trooper!
Our afternoon was spent at the swimming pool, where the kiddos practiced their swimming skills. The fun was short-lived, however, as there was an incident in the pool (Have you ever seen Caddyshack?) by one of the other swimmers. The pool was shut down for the day. Oh well! We went back to the cabin to have supper and watch LSU in the College World Series. Go Tigers! The kids got some good playtime before bed. We were able to get a picture of all six grandkids before they were completely worn out...
We woke up early to make it to 8:00am mass. After breakfast, we headed for home, with a stop in Eunice for a day with Grandma Dee, Poppa and Nanna and all of our cousins. It was a very relaxing day, after a great lunch (chicken stew). We always feel at ease in Eunice and this time was no exception. It was a relaxing ending to a wonderful weekend. We're looking forward to our next little getaway.

Gameday is Over

The kids finished their Vacation Bible School today. The theme this year was Gameday and the church used the Cat Chat program which delighted the kids. Because Gus was out of town for part of the week, Beedle,Gracie, and Nate attended school for the week. They had a great time painting, singing, playing, and learning about the Mass. They came home ravenous everyday and it did not take long for them to drift off to sleep each day. Friday ended with a Mass and then a water slide for the kids to enjoy. What a great week of memories for all the kids who were blessed enough to attend Gameday.

Beedle's Buddy

Beedle had a silly night tonight. He had been begging to go to the Incredible Pizza Company (according to Beedle, it is the "best place in the world".) so we thought tonight would be a great night. He has also been begging for Jacob to come over, so we thought we'd invite him to join us. As you can about imagine, they had an incredible time. Not so much interested in eating pizza. But, infatuated with the sights and sounds of the action at the arcade. They did everything from playing mini-golf, to hunting for antelope, to whacking sharks with a mallet, to driving a squad car. What else could they possibly do to top an evening like that? Oh, yeah, have some ice cream! What a silly bunch of guys! Thanks to Jacob for joining Beedle and Dad. We wouldn't have had as much fun without you! Beedle's looking forward to the next silly night!

Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Today during rest time I heard a terrible crash...

Apparently telling Gracie it was time to take a nap only reminded her that her dolls were hungry. All her dolls were placed on a blanket and she was trying to get them some food when her plan went south. It went south quickly and LOUDLY. She quickly jumped in bed and closed her eyes! Can you just imagine her thoughts "She will never think it was me ;)" I went back in five minutes and saw that she was indeed fast asleep. On my way out the door I caught a glimpse of this...I asked her when she woke up why her baby was in the corner. Without any hesitation she told me that her baby was not having a good day. She had done lots of naughty things. With that beautiful smile that Gracie does so well she told me that her baby "has lots of good days but just today she had a bad day." She said just as sweetly that her baby was going to choose to have a better day tomorrow-- And she did!

Are You Ready for Some Football?

You'd swear it was September around here! The boys got dressed up for a little football game in the yard. They put on their gear and battled on the front-yard gridiron. Gracie played her part too--she made sure the boys were eating healthy snacks and drinking their water. Nothing like a little outdoor activity--fun and exercise!

He's Baa-ack

Gus had a great time with Grandma and Poppa on their trek to Tennessee. Nanna Annie and Dylan also made the trip and they all made it home safely today. Gus has never been away from the family, and everyone was very happy for his return. Gus promises to relate everything that happened on his trip- after everyone stops fawning over him.

Oh, Gravity!

Beedle practiced riding his bike this evening. He happened to have fallen a few more times than he would have liked. After one particular fall, he cried out...

Beedle: I just don't know why I keep falling.
Dad: That's gravity, son.
Beedle: What is gravity?
Dad: Gravity is the force that brings things back down to earth.
Beedle: I wish God would get rid of gravity!
Dad: Beedle, I don't think God is going to do that.
Beedle: Well, I wish God would make gravity get out of our town!
Dad (trying to change his point of view): You know, Beedle, if there was no gravity, when you'd jump, you could fly!

Beedle smiled and got back on his bike. Oh, Gravity, give Beedle a break!

HFHE End of the Year Party

Today was the Holy Family Home Educators end-of-the-year party. The families got together at St. Edmond's Church for a big shindig. The kids were entertained by games (volleyball, football, etc.), a fun jump, and the main attraction, a petting zoo. The folks at Zoo Zoom, the Zoo on Wheels (http://www.zoo-zoom.com/), had several domestic and exotic animals on display. They ranged from baby wallabies to tarantulas and from rats to rabbits. Here are some pics from our day...

The Princess IS the Pea!

Our little Sweet Pea had her ballet recital this afternoon. A year of hard work and dedication led to Gracie performing as a pea in The Ballet Studio's production of "Abigail's Dream". She was wonderful! Prettiest pea in the pod! (Sorry we don't have any pics of the performance. Picture taking was prohibited.) She was also joined by a few of her friends--two cats (Zoe & Blair) and one bunny (Meredith). It takes a lot of courage to get up there in front of all those people and perform. We are very proud of you, Gracie! We look forward to your next performance.

Easy Rider

Guess who rode his bike without training wheels for the first time?
